La Grande, OR at a Glance
La Grande is located on the Oregon Trail, an historic route traveled by Lewis
and Clark, two pioneer explorers who charted the west in the 1800s. Since their
time, Oregon has welcomed a number of travelers, many of whom follow in the explorers'
footsteps to hike and camp in the Oregon
wilderness around La Grande. The Blue
Mountain Forest State Scenic Corridor runs along the Oregon Trail and offers
scenery that is unparalleled in the Northwest. Fishing is a popular outdoor activity
in this area of the state, with 13 species of fish available for anglers to try
for. La Grande's small-town roots are reflected in celebrations like the annual
Kiwanis
Club Pancake Breakfast, held each 4th of July. The campus of the Eastern
Oregon University is situated in the heart of the town and lends university
flair to the city's dynamic cultural scene.
